Copenhagen Fintech new partner in Danish Quantum Community

We are thrilled to welcome Copenhagen Fintech to the Danish Quantum Community (DQC) bringing together two powerful Danish ecosystems at the intersection of financial innovation and quantum technology.

Quantum technologies are set to transform the financial sector—enabling everything from the optimization of complex algorithms to the development of quantum-safe encryption. However, these technologies also bring significant challenges. Many current cryptographic systems will be vulnerable to attacks from future quantum computers, and replacing them with quantum-resistant alternatives could take decades. Financial institutions must begin assessing these risks now and start planning the transition to secure, quantum-resilient infrastructure.

A Platform for Quantum Readiness in Finance

Together, DQC and Copenhagen Fintech will explore pathways to launch a new platform aimed at:

  • Fostering knowledge-sharing between quantum experts and financial experts and leaders
  • Enabling research collaboration across the ecosystem
  • Supporting a strategic and long-term roadmap for quantum readiness
  • Accelerating partnerships between financial institutions and quantum technology providers

“We see a need for a platform that brings together stakeholders across the quantum and financial spectrum—experts, startups, regulators, and investors. Together with Danish Quantum Community, we believe we can make this happen.”

 — Thomas Krogh Jensen, CEO of Copenhagen Fintech

Copenhagen Fintech has worked with the quantum agenda since 2019 organising a number of awareness building events, sessions and panels on conferences focused on quantum in finance in addition to supporting several R&D projects between academia and the financial industry. In 2024 Copenhagen Fintech collaborated with DQC in connection with Nordic Fintech Week and it is the plan to build on the many already good efforts and existing collaboration and engage more players.

Why Action is Needed Now

Replacing current encryption standards is a long and complex process. Past experience shows it can take decades after new standards are published to fully migrate critical systems. The first step is a quantum risk assessment—identifying vulnerable systems and planning their transition to quantum-safe solutions.

“Several DQC partners already have the knowledge and technologies to support financial institutions in this shift. We hope that this partnership with Copenhagen Fintech will lead to new collaborations that help accelerate the move toward a quantum-secure financial infrastructure.”

 — Kristine Helen Falgren, Managing Director, Danish Quantum Community

About Copenhagen Fintech

Copenhagen Fintech is Denmark’s national cluster for finance and fintech. Since 2016, it has fostered collaboration between startups, financial institutions, regulators, and academia to drive innovation in the financial sector. Today, the community includes over 175 members and 20 corporate partners worldwide, supporting startup incubation, international growth, and cutting-edge financial solutions.

What’s Next?

As part of this new partnership, DQC and Copenhagen Fintech will explore pathways to co-develop the first Nordic end-user network for quantum in financial services. The initiative will help prepare the industry for the coming quantum era—both defensively, by enhancing cybersecurity, and offensively, by opening new market opportunities e.g. through quantum inspired and quantum computing.
