Master’s program in Quantum Computing opens in summer 2025 at University of Southern Denmark
The Danish Ministry for Higher Education and Science just announced the approval of 11 new university programs, including a new Master’s Program in Quantum Computing at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The program opens in summer 2025.
The new Master in Quantum Computing will be available at SDU in Odense and will equip students with competencies within quantum computing and quantum software development.
According to Professor Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen, Director of Center for Quantum Mathematics (SDU) and Director for the SDU Quantum Hub, the new program comes at a great time:
“We are very excited to learn that the Minister for Higher Education and Science, Christina Egelund, have just announced the approval of our proposal for a brand-new education in quantum computing, the first of its kind in Denmark and we are very much looking forward to welcoming the first students summer 2025. The timing is ideal, since the education is set to graduate its first batch of students in 2027, which coincides with some of the leading quantum computing hardware companies’ prediction for when we will see the first real life quantum supremacy applications.”
The new program will build upon the existing expertise within quantum mathematics at University of Southern Denmark:
“We have at the Centre for Quantum Mathematics, at IMADA, SDU, created an elite group in quantum mathematics consisting of some of the top researchers in this area hired from some of best universities in the world, like Harvard, Berkeley, Oxford, ETH, Duke and so on. With this buildup we are now in a perfect position to take up the task of educating the next generation of students in this fast-growing field of quantum computing”, says Professor Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen.
