Denmark Takes the Stage at Quantum.Tech London

For the second year in a row, a Danish quantum delegation participated in the Quantum.Tech conference in London and got a chance to visit the United Kingdom’s growing quantum ecosystem.

Danish Quantum Community was pleased to co-host this year’s Danish delegation to London in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and Invest in Denmark. With more than seven Danish quantum companies present at the conference and a Danish delegation of 15+ participants, Denmark’s strong and continuous commitment to collaboration with the UK was clearly visible at the conference.

Danish footprint on the official event program

The 2024 edition of Quantum.Tech turned its attention to the commercialization of quantum technologies, shedding light on how both quantum companies and large industry players are utilizing quantum technologies to stay ahead of the technology curve.

The conference gathered representatives from the UK and beyond. Denmark was strongly represented at the joint Danish booth with both quantum software and quantum hardware companies and over 15 representatives from the entire Danish quantum ecosystem – and it was great to experience the growing interest in Denmark’s quantum initiatives!

The Danish quantum ecosystem was strongly represented in the official program in both keynotes and panel discussions, including:

  • Michael Kjær, CEO of DFM – Danish National Metrology Institute, presented the vision and plan for Quantum Denmark, the new Copenhagen-based assembly point for Denmark’s quantum ecosystem that will soon be established as part of Denmark’s National Strategy for Quantum Technology.
  • Ulrich Hoff, Quantum Engagement Specialist at Kvantify, shared Kvantify’s work on quantum algorithms for chemical simulations and provided an assessment of quantum algorithms’ capabilities today.
  • Michael Schmidt, International Sales Manager at Quantum Machines, shared perspectives on Quantum Machines and the former QDevil’s journey of quantum innovation from academia and university spin-out to becoming a commercial powerhouse internationally.
  • Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen, CEO and founder of the software company Qpurpose, presented Qpurpose’s recent work on Gaussian Boson Sampling and exponential speed-up of Monte Carlo simulations for applications in fintech and P2X.
  • Raheesty Nishta Nem, Business Developer at Deep Tech Lab – Quantum, provided an update on the Danish NATO DIANA accelerator in Copenhagen and the expansion of Deep Tech Lab’s program to include residency programs and a new venture lab program.
  • Morten Bache, Scientific Director at the Novo Nordisk Foundation, gave a presentation on the Danish “quantum valley” ecosystem and participated in a panel on using quantum for good together with representatives from UKQuantum, National Physical Laboratory and Girls in Quantum.

Denmark and UK strengthen ties at Quantum.Tech London

As part of the delegation trip, Denmark used the conference as an occasion to further strengthen the ties between the quantum ecosystems of Denmark and the United Kingdom.

The Ambassador of Denmark in the United Kingdom, Ambassador René Dinesen, hosted an evening reception for the Danish delegation and UK quantum stakeholders. The reception gathered representatives from the quantum industry, investors, researchers and policy-makers leading UK’s and Denmark’s national quantum efforts. It was a great occasion to reconnect with the UK quantum ecosystem, get an update on the UKRI and NQCC programs, and explore new potentials for transnational collaboration.

The conference comes at a time when Denmark is continuing to expand Denmark’s presence on the international quantum stage and foster new avenues for bilateral collaboration. In the words of Ambassador Dinesen: “Quantum technology is not just a priority for Denmark. It is a strategic priority for Denmark”.

Earlier this year, Denmark and the UK signed a MoU to reinforce our shared vision of a strong quantum ecosystem built world-class research and an ever-growing quantum industry. The MoU is part of Denmark’s national initiative to establish and strengthen bilateral collaboration on quantum technology as part of the National Strategy for Quantum Technology.
