DQC welcomes Rotonium as a new partner

The Danish Quantum Community (DQC) welcomes Rotonium as a new partner.

Founded in 2022, Rotonium is an Italian deep-tech company developing SWaP-optimized (Size, Weight and Power) photonic quantum processors designed for compact, energy-efficient deployment.

Its approach is based on the Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) of photons, a unified physical principle bridging classical and quantum domains.

In quantum computing, OAM enables the design of compact quantum processors operating at room temperature, eliminating the need for cryogenics and paving the way for deployable quantum accelerators for defense, space, autonomous robotics and advanced industry.

In classical communications, OAM provides additional orthogonal channels within the same frequency band, increasing bandwidth and resilience in contested electromagnetic environments.

By leveraging a single scientific foundation that delivers dual-use outcomes, Rotonium contributes to strengthening Europe’s strategic autonomy in secure communications and next-generation energy-efficient computing.

Part of NATO DIANA in Denmark

In January 2026, Rotonium was selected for the 2026 cohort of the NATO DIANA program at the BioInnovation Institute in Copenhagen under the “Contested Electromagnetic Environments” challenge. Rotonium’s proposed solution is an OAM-based radio system, built on wavefront engineering, that “twists” electromagnetic signals to generate orthogonal channels, enabling reduced interference and enhanced resilience to jamming, helping maintain reliable communications in the presence of strong electromagnetic disturbances.

At DQC, we are very excited to have Rotonium onboard and look forward to collaboration.
